Support Drops for Solar, Wind Tax Credits Among Democrats

The Associated Press-NORC Center conducted a poll which revealed that U.S. adults now show decreased support for renewable energy subsidies which include solar panels and electric vehicles and offshore wind power.

The poll indicates that Democrats still favor green energy programs more than Republicans do but their support has decreased. The percentage of Democrats who support EV tax credits decreased from 70% in 2022 to 58% this year while independent support dropped from 49% to 28%.

The study emerges during a period when the Trump administration has started to dismantle various federal energy and environmental regulations. The survey shows that Republican backing for green energy initiatives remains minimal but there is no corresponding increase in support for Trump’s energy or climate change policies.

The analysts believe that the change in public opinion could stem from doubts about tax incentive effectiveness and worries about government financial outlays. The survey results show that Trump receives approval from 1 in 10 Democrats and 2 in 10 independents regarding his climate change management but Republicans maintain strong support.

The survey results demonstrate increasing political differences regarding U.S. energy economy transformation which will affect both future policy decisions and industrial funding choices.
