Musk Says AI-Powered Vine Set to Return via X

Elon Musk announced on Thursday that Vine is set to make a comeback in ”AI form” through his social media company X. The revival comes nearly nine years after Vine was shut down, and while details remain scarce, the relaunch hints at Musk’s push to blend short-form content with artificial intelligence.

Vine, known for its six-second looping videos, was launched by Twitter in 2013 and quickly gained a cult following before being discontinued in 2016. Musk has teased a revival multiple times since acquiring Twitter, now rebranded as X, including through user polls and cryptic posts.

Industry observers say the format is well suited to AI-generated content, given the current limitations of video AI tools, which are more adept at producing brief clips. A relaunch could place X in direct competition with TikTok and Instagram Reels, both of which dominate the short-form video space.

No timeline or technical details were provided, and X declined to comment further. Still, Musk’s announcement fuels speculation that AI-driven creative tools will become central to the next phase of user-generated content—and could offer X a new growth avenue beyond text and audio.
