The U.S. General Services Administration has added OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude to its roster of approved artificial intelligence vendors, paving the way for faster adoption of AI tools by federal agencies.
The move streamlines procurement by allowing agencies to access these AI systems under pre-negotiated contract terms. The GSA said all approved providers have committed to “responsible use” and compliance with federal standards, addressing growing concerns over security, transparency, and ethical deployment of AI in government operations.
By centralizing access, the agency aims to reduce administrative hurdles and accelerate integration of AI into public services, from document analysis to citizen engagement. The decision reflects a broader federal push to modernize technology infrastructure while managing risks posed by emerging AI capabilities.
The GSA did not disclose financial terms of the vendor agreements. Analysts say the designation could strengthen the companies’ positions in the highly competitive government technology market, potentially influencing future policy and funding decisions.
