Trump Presses Fed to Slash Rates by One Point

The Federal Reserve should lower interest rates by one full percentage point according to President Trump after May inflation data indicated potential monetary policy relaxation.

Through his Truth Social platform Trump advocated for rate reductions because they would reduce the amount of interest paid on maturing debt which he deemed “so important!!!” The Federal Reserve faces expectations to maintain its current interest rate range of 4.25%-4.50% during its upcoming meeting.

The May Consumer Price Index revealed annual inflation at 2.4% which rose slightly from April but remained below expectations despite Trump’s extensive tariff increases. The White House faces increasing pressure because Trump’s recent call for lower interest rates coincides with economists who disagree about inflation trends.
